Strange Bedfellows (36 Hours #2) by Kasey Michaels

This series was originally published by Harlequin back in 1997, well almost two decades later, Harlequin has revamped the series and is re-releasing it as a digital series. One book is released each week, however each book is broken down into three parts, released on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You will have to get all three parts, otherwise you get cut-off in the middle of the story and these stories are catchy.

Cassandra Mercer a high school counselor and Sean Frame a business man with a high school son and over involved parent/member of the school board are always at each other's throats; but when a horrible storm hits and they end up trapped in a car after a mudslide, let just say the heat from those school meetings turns into a different kind of heat.

As Sean navigates dealing with his teenage son by learning how to be a more communicative parent; he also has to learn what he really feels for Cassandra and whether their car ride can turn into something real.

After the storm Cassandra is finding out that Sean might be the one. Now she just needs how to figure out how to reach that bull headed stubborn man.

The story is good and the characters are realistic so the story is very enjoyable.

Lost In You by Sommer Marsden

I got an ARC copy of this book to provide an honest review and here's what I thought.

The story follows Clover Brite and Dorian Martin; Clover is a small town, hard working girl with trust issues and Dorian is the rich bad-boy turned responsible after daddy died.

Clover and Dorian end up trapped in a [every girls dream] mall after a super-storm hits their town, and well of course sparks do fly, in every position possible. After the storm passes, Dorian wants to continue seeing Clover, but fear keeps her running.

This book is all about romantic action and it does deliver, however the author introduced some events in each characters' background that weren't really elaborated and should have. This book was good, the characters were good and likeable, Dorian more than Clover, but they were good and the book was enjoyable.

Get this book, it's already available and you'll enjoy the read

Losing It (Losing It, #1) by Cora Carmack

Ms. Cormack did a great job, one of the best books I have ever read, I loved Garrick, I need to book a flight to London and find me a Garrick.

Garrick was great male lead, most romance novels make the guy be such an ass to the girl, but through out the whole book, you see a natural development of the characters relationship.
Bliss was very quirky and a little shy, but as a female character she worked for me, she wasn't a doormat.
I like that the characters didn't jump straight into sex or as Bliss says "the beast with two backs", a lot of books have the guy using sex as a way to control the girl but here you see a development between them, you see their love and friendship grow and move into that stage.

I will however say, if you don't reciprocate someone else's romantic feelings, don't let them believe in a maybe. Maybe's only hurt and change friendships.

So glad the next book is Cade (who you will meet in this book) because as a friend he was just incredible and he deserves his happy ending.

This series is a must read and I recommend you read the books in order.

A Match Made in Texas (Deep in the Heart of Texas #6) by Katie Lane

I was given an ARC to provide my honest review, and let me tell you this book is hilarious. The story focuses on Brianne Cates and Dusty Hicks.

Brianne has four super-mega over protective older brothers (can you imagine the horror) that treat her like she's a 2 year-old. While Brianne is in hiding, she just has to get pulled over by a cop, that she ran off the road. The cop she happens to nearly kill is none other than smokin' hot sheriff Dustin "Dusty" Hicks.

Dusty is a divorcee, with a daughter and some serious grudge against the rich and pampered; you would too if your wealthy ex screwed you over for custody.

Here's what I loved about the book; there were a lot of comedic scenes in the book. I won't go into too much detail, because, well that would just kill the fun, but just the opening scene will have you have you cracking up. The hate-love that Dusty expresses towards Brianne makes for explosive chemistry.

What I didn't like, was that there were some scenes I felt were missing, the book would have been a little longer, but it would have given more development to the character's relationship.

Should you go buy this book, definately, it's a good read. I already can't wait for the next book in the series.

Weekends Required (Danvers #1) by Sydney Landon

The first book in the Danvers Series follows the story of Jason and Claire. Jason is the big shot CEO of Danvers and Claire is his personal assitant. Claire has been working for Jason for a couple of year now and in those years Jason has never seen her a more than his assitant.

Claire has been dealing with her mother's medical expenses and the upkeep of her mother's house, Claire had to move out after her mother began to alzheimer like symptoms and was no longer able to remember her and became agitated easily. So, Claire had to take on a second job; her second job is not to her usual conservative demeanor, but since jumping out of a party cake in lengerai pays really well, she starts working for Partiez Plus.

By a stroke of luck or misfortune as Claire sees it, she has to accompany Jason on a business trip on the same weekend she is to work a bachelors party. When she finds that she'll have enough time to do both, she's happy, she won't miss out on the pay from her other job.

Jason had to have Claire travel with him because he had to attend his BFF's bachelors party, but at the same time he had to work on a huge merger. As the cake is rolled out for the bachelors party Jason happens to be sitting in the front row right next to his buddy. Imagine his shock when who should jump out of the cake but his conservative assitant. From this point on, he becomes attracted to his assistant and he decides to figure her out.

The story continues and Claire, whose not had an easy life with a verbally/emotionally abusive farther, a recently deceased sister and a sick mother is at first happy that Jason is into her, but the relationship sours kinda of quickly when Claire finds that Jason is becoming a little to controlling. Now don't get it wrong Jason isn't crazy controlling, he's just taking liberties with making life as easy as possible for Claire, the more he finds himself falling for her, the more he wants to protect her and make sure she doesn't suffer. But, she doesn't see it that way, she feels like he is completely ignoring her ability to make choices.

Eventually they settle their conflict and Jason learns he needs to step and allow Claire to make her own decisions. The story end with Jason and Claire tying the knot and expecting thier first baby.

The story was good, it was sweet, what invisible girl doesn't dream of her Prince Charming coming along and saving the day. Granted it was so unbelievable that in all the years of working with her, he doesn't her until he sees half-naked jumping out a cake. That made him across as a bit shallow, but as fars as guys in a romance novel, he was pretty decent.

Bride for Real (Volakis Vow #2) by Lynne Graham

Sander is and ahole plain and simple and Tally went from a somewhat determined strong girl to a total pushover.

So book 1 was bearable, and they get a sort-of happy ending with Sander convincing Tally to stay and they move to France where Tally awaits the arrival of her baby and Sander is like "eh, I guess I have no choice".

Book 2 starts 18 months after said baby is still born. As is common in situations like that, Tally falls into a severe depression, she's having nightmares, cries a lot, doesn't want anything physical with Sander.

Sander is an arrogant douche that decides if his wife doesn't want him physically he will focus on work and completely ignore his wife. Tally takes that as he doesn't wanna be married I'm going to leave him and so she does.

Sander is all depressed/pissed off that his wife left him and is on a bender, on one of his benders he bangs his ex-highschool sweetheart AND "HE IS STILL MARRIED TO TALLY". [oh and his banging his ex is like right after Tally left him]

Now starts the book, its 18 months and Tally was photographed at an even with another guy, Sander sees this and he is jealous and decides he wants to get back together with his WIFE. He sets up a little reunion and seeing as the only thing they had right in their marriage was screwing they do it on a table, a bed, a shower, a bed again and in the morning Sander drops his lets give it another go.

Tally asks him if he's screwed anyone else while they're apart and Sander say yes. Tally leaves and goes home back to London. SURPRISE her shitty mother needs money, Tally decides to ask her dad and just like he blackmailed Sander to marry Tally in book 1, he now blackmails Tally into giving Sander another shot, and SO SHE DOES.

SKIP SKIP SKIP

Impromptu honeymoon and they screw like rabbits with SHOCKER no protection.

SKIP SKIP SKIP

Back in London Sander gets called by a weird lawyer from France because his ex died and Sander has to go to France, and SURPRISE AGAIN Sander's ex had his baby because the guy obviously doesn't know how to either keep it in his pants or at least wear a glove. Now Sander's all shit Tally's not gonna like this, especially because you're mommy's my ex and they did not like each other.

Sander is back and he decides let me screw Tally one last time just in case she decides to leave me for good. He drops his bomb and Tally is pissed Sander is actually all it's not a big deal don't get like that, why are you leaving again, if you hadn't left the first time this wouldn't have happened.

IF THAT IS NOT A WAKE UP AND GET OUT OF DODGE SIGN I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS

SKIP SKIP SKIP

Sander has to go to Athens and leaves Tally in charge of the baby and the nanny and THE BIGGEST IDIOT THAT Tally is bonds with the baby.

SKIP SKIP SKIP

Tally is pregnant she finally tells Sander everything she feels and Sanders says I love you.

2 years later they have their baby and Tally is the official adoptive mother of Sander's ex's baby.
_______________________________________________________________________

First off this marriage was doomed from the start, and secondly how much of a doormat do you have to be to get over your husband banging his ex right after you separate and then to actually start doubting yourself when the guys says if I banged my ex and got her pregnant its your fault because you left. REALLY LIKE REALLY Sander only wanted her back because someone else now had his shinny toy. If you're gonna read, then read both books, so you can rant from the very beginning.

Third Degree by Julie Cross

This is good story with a good message. Sometimes so much stress is placed on young people and it pushes them to their limits, especially when they are not emotionally mature enough to deal with things.

The story follows Isabel "Izzy" Jenkins a super genius child prodigy, who at 18 just failed the emotional readiness test required to practice medicine and when told she needs to wait 6 months to re-test, she decides to re-enroll incognito in college as a freshman to try and live through all the milestones she skipped.

Enter super-hot and really decent nice guy, Marshall "Marsh" Collins who recognizes Izzy and befriends her. Marshall starts to help Izzy become more sociable and developed. As their friendship continues, their feelings grow for each other.

It's a really sweet story about friendship and love, and understanding. You will love the characters, Izzy at first comes across as a bit ultra neurotic, but as you read, you get to know see all the pressure she was under. Marshall is like your typical boy next door type, he's sweet, he's funny and he doesn't come across as an annoying douche.

Overall, you will like the story, the characters are very down to earth and relatable.

Going Long (Waiting on the Sidelines #2) by Ginger Scott

I got a free copy of this book from the publisher and since its part of a series, well I had to buy and read the first one. Anyway, even if you don't get the first book, the second book gives a good background on the characters so it's easy to follow.

The story is about Nolan and Reed, they were high school sweetheart and college sweethearts. Reed is talented football player and Nolan is studying to teach special needs students. The story follows the stress attending different schools puts on their relationship and how misunderstandings almost tear them apart.

Despite being king jock, Reed is a really down to earth guy that sometimes does make a stupid decision or two, but he always knows that no matter what he loves Nolan, that she's his one.

Nolan is your typical girl, she has her insecurities and is trying to get through school. She has bit of a breakdown when tragedy strikes and through a series of misunderstandings feels that Reed has left her.

Once both Reed and Nolan begin to communicate a bit more, things get cleared up and they start moving towards fixing their relationship. The story has a happy ending and I love that their love is able survive the ups and downs of life.

It's really nice and sweet story, you will really enjoy it, I just wish that story was longer.

The Marriage Betrayal (Volakis Vow #1) by Lynne Graham

Girl meets boy, they get involved, she fall in love, he doesn't.

The story follows Tally and Sander and their very dysfunctional relationship. After Sander gets Tally pregnant, he decides to marry her. What he doesn't share with her is that he only married her because Tally's out of the picture father threatens to ruin Sander's ailing company if he doesn't marry her. Tally is happy because she actually loves Sander. Sander become resentful of the marriage because he thinks that Tally was the one that asked her father to force him into marriage. Towards the end of the story Tally confronts him and in his anger he reveals that he only married her because her father forced him.Tally is shocked and Sander realized that she didn't know, while he's in the bathroom, Tally packs a bag and flees. When Sander realizes she's gone, he goes after her and convinces her to return to him. They move to France and it looks like they have a happy ever after. [read the next book]

This relationship was really wrong from the beginning and it only got worse. Sander is prick and Tally is just plain stupid. Sander is shallow and Tally is so naive its not even endearing. Read if you're bored.

You Again by Ashlee Mallory

Don't let the classification or cover of the book fool you, this book is anything but a typical romance novel. When I started reading this book, I was like oh, it's going be second chance romance kind of story. Granted, there is a second chance romance, but the murder mystery going on will not let you put this book down. This book was so captivating and engaging I read the whole thing in 1 day.

Back in high school, Allie McBride had a huge crush on Sam Fratto, the gorgeous, smart and popular jock. A little more than a decade later Allie is a teacher at her old high school and who should join the staff temporarily, if you guessed Sam, then yes.

Sam the famous crime author, had to come back to town for a family emergency and the cute blond he sees at the airport happens to be his co-worker and classroom neighbor. Sam likes what he sees, he likes the kinda of woman Allie has grown up to be.

When a body is found on school grounds and Allie starts opening doors to the past, the killer realizes it's only a matter of time before the truth comes to light. The killer decides there's only one way to deal with the nosy teacher and the crime writer.

As their investigation continues, not only do Sam and Allie get closer to the truth, these old friends become a lot more and Sam will do everything he can to protect Allie.

The story was well written, the plot was engaging and the twist will leave your jaw hanging wide open. What I didn't really like about the book was that Sam doesn't share his feelings with Allie until the end of the book. I hope Ms. Mallory writes a follow-up, I can totally see Sam and Allie as the Booth and Bones (Bones TV show reference) of their town. Get yourself a copy when it's published, you'll enjoy the story a lot.

Perfection (Neighbor from Hell #2) by R.L. Mathewson

This book is the story of Zoe and Trevor, if you remember from book #1, there's a slight mention of Trevor, Jason's cousin. Well this is his happily ever after.

I was not very thrilled with this book, Zoe had the usual girl issues, she feels over-weight and not pretty enough. Trevor, oh my god he cannot be a bigger ass because then you'd want to really just punch someone.

The story starts off with Zoe getting fired from her crappy job and coming home only to have her ahole neighbor (Trevor) take her parking spot, use the last of her detergent and stealing the comfort food she ordered. When Zoe confronts him, they get into a heated argument that end with Trevor basically calling her fat (what a d-bag, you don't say that to anyone) . Zoe leaves to her apartment hurt and proceeds to cry about her crappy life. Thank god, despite being a terrible ass Trevor feels bad and want to apologize and since the wall are basically paper-thin, Trevor begins a conversation with Zoe through the wall. Trevor helps Zoe get a job with his uncle's construction company and on the side hires her to do his housekeeping. Zoe and Trevor develop an easy camaraderie and eventually develop a friend with benefits relationship (minus the friends).  Eventually, Trevor actually falls in love with Zoe because rather remaining the superficial, shallow d-bag he gets to know Zoe as a person. However, Trevor continues to act like an ass so obviously Zoe doesn't believe him when he decides he wants a real relationship.

Eventually, Zoe ends up pregnant and Trevor is semi-able to redeem himself and the book ends with an 8 years later and Zoe and Trevor are happily married.

Unlike the first book, Trevor doesn't come across as a likable jerk. I say decent read, even if the characters weren't as likable as the first book. I will also add, would it kill R.L. Mathewson to explain how the Bradfords got banned from so many restaurants, I mean seriously. You'll get a few descent laughs with these books, so read.

Sex, Lies, and Beauty Aides (Twisted Sisters Club #1) by Deb Julienne

I absolutely beyond loved this book, it is a non-stop laugh-fest.

Sabrina Thompson is a 24 year-old virgin who has never been on a third date, who writes a beauty column for a magazine that is currently struggling. So when they downsize the staff, they distribute a few columns around and to poor Sabrina's mortification, she happens to be given the two columns she doesn't have one clue about, LOVE & SEX [laugh, you know you want to].

Trent Wellington is the younger, identical twin brother of Travis who is supposed to take over said struggling magazine, only one problem Travis has some issues to take care of and can't make take over the magazine. So what are identical twins to do? I'm sure you've guessed it.

Sabrina has had a crush since the day she first met him a few years back and Trent has been in the same boat, except thanks to Sabrina's BFF and Trent's cousin Kat, he wasn't allowed to follow up on it [read the book, you'll love how they first met].

Trent [as Travis] begins to hang out with Sabrina and the sparks just fly off, they really are such a cute couple and they're adventures will keep you on the edge and incapable of putting the book down.

Throughout the book you see Sabrina and Trent [as Travis] bond at an emotional level, that by the time Trent reveals his true identity Sabrina is able to admit she still loves him. Don't think Trent gets off the hook easily, Sabrina brings the pain, and by pain I mean the most funniest scenes you will ever read and trust me they are good.

I'm truly hoping Ms.Julienne writes a sequel because wow. This book was well written, it's engaging, you'll laugh, you'll want to sometimes smack both Trent and Travis upside the head, and you'll wish you had a BFF like Kat. The characters are realistic, they have doubts, insecurities and best of all they're not afraid to share. Trent is not like a lot of male characters, he's not afraid to let Sabrina know how he feels and best of all he's very real and down to earth. Sabrina, well she's your typical girl, neurotic, insecure and that is totally okay because she doesn't get so caught up in herself. Go and grab yourself a copy, believe me when you're done with it, you'll be glad you did.

The Texas Cowboy by Katheryn Lane

The story follows Jack, a Texan cowboy and Victoria (aka Vicky), a British tourist. The story was nice, it's a love at first sight kind of thing. Jack and Vicky are very likable characters; Jack is your typical silent type cowboy and Vicky is a very relaxed go with the flow kind of girl.

Vicky is in town visiting her cousin Laura, whom I personally found irritating as hell, there are not enough words to describe how shallow she is. Anyway, Vicky and Jack develop a romance, except Jack left out 1 very important detail when he made a reference to his ex, and it's not ex-girlfriend, its ex-wife (not divorced, just separated). The twist in the book was totally not what I was expecting, it will shock you.

This book would have scored much higher with me if the ending was a little longer, the ending just didn't wrap up as nicely as I would have wanted.

I still say read, if you have time to kill, grab a copy, it's a quick short story that will keep you entertained.

Better Than Perfect (More Than a Game #1) by Kristina Mathews

So this story is about Johnny and Alice, they were college sweethearts that broke up when Johnny got a chance to make it at the majors [by the way, Johnny is baseball player], and no Johnny didn't dump Alice, she broke it off. Her thought was that she didn't want to tie Johnny down, especially when she found out she was pregnant and the kid might be his former best friend's kid. No, Alice did not cheat on Johnny, they were  already broken up, and Mel [former BFF] got her really drunk and well you do the math. So, when Alice find herself pregnant, and with no idea who the father was, she decided not to tell Johnny because of her messed up childhood. Her dad had to give up his football scholarship and work in the mines in his hometown because he knocked up Alice's mom, so can you say resentment. Anyways, Johnny and Alice get a chance at a happy ending.

Johnny was an absolutely great guy, in most romance novels, the guy goes of to basically screws anything that moves, but Johnny stayed faithful to Alice. What I hated in this book was that Johnny just couldn't catch a break until the end.

Alice, I didn't really like, I felt she was just too selfish and that is why the book lost point with me. Alice kept acting and rationalizing that everything she did, she did out of love and to protect Johnny. She never really gave Johnny the opportunity to make it his call, to either hit a home run or strike out.

Zach [the kid] was a good character, typical teenager in a complex situation. It was also great the book gave his point of view, a lot of books only give you the points of the main guy and girl, but this book gave you the kid, which allowed you to better sympathize and identify with the characters.

So get yourself a copy as soon as possible, you'll love the story and as soon as you read, you'll be just as anxious as me for the next book in the series.

War Brothers: The Graphic Novel by Sharon E. MacKay; art by Daniel Lafrance

I will tell you now that story is not for the faint of heart. It is a story of anguish and despair, it is a story of lost innocence, but it is also a story of hope. Though the book is a work of fiction, the story is no less real than ground beneath our feet.

Told from the point of a young boy named Jacob, abducted from his school to fight in Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army, we see him begin to question his faith and wonder why god would permit such atrocities in his name. But, even in the darkest of times Jacob holds on to a last shred of hope, that he will be reunited with his father.

This is by far one of the best graphic novels I have ever read; the depiction of the characters is so profound, you are able to feel their pain, their fears and their hope. As you read this book, your heart will go out to not only to the boys in the story, but the thousands of children lost to the corruption of god’s word by a man who cares only for himself.

Finding It (Losing It, #3) by Cora Carmack

This is the story of Kelsey, which as by now you've read books 1 and 2, you know she's Bliss bestie and a friend of Cade's.

Kelsey's book wasn't as good as the first 2 books, but it was still one hell of a read. Kelsey goes on a trip around Europe and her rich daddy puts a secret security stalker on her tail and inadvertedly provides her with a map to find herself.

Jackson was once just as lost as Kelsey, so he recognizes a kindred spirit and as such decides to help her find herself. Along, the way they also find each other, of course every romance has to hit a few rocks, but you can read the book to find them.

Overall, its a good book and I did pull from the book that alcohol is never the solution. You can mask and numb the pain but you can't get rid of it until you deal with the source.

Faking It (Losing It, #2) by Cora Carmack

Wow, just wow .... this is a must read. The only thing that would have made this book better is if Bliss and Cade managed to fix their friendship.

But other than that wow, the characters are complex and well developed, they're not these one dimensional characters you often see in a lot of books. Cade is mending a broken heart, or so he thinks, but the moment some crazy red-head named Max storms into his life, things get crazy interesting. You see they're love grow and both Cade and Max move past their traumas, and I'm not talking broken hearts. I'm talking the kinda of stuff that keeps therapist employed.

Remember, this is book 2, I'm hoping you've already read book 1, because that way things make more sense.

If Only by A.J. Pine

This book follows the romance of Noah and Jordan, two Americans that find each thousands of miles from their respective states and schools. They have their ups and their downs throughout the story, they find their way back to each other because they come to realize that love is about more than a single moment and that "it isn't possible to love and part."

There are moments in the story when you hate Noah and you feel Jordan's pain as your own. Noah and Jordan spend so much time thinking about the end that in the process they did so much harm to each other.

This story tells us that if you love go for it, don't think about the end, think about the now think about tomorrow, think about a week, a month, a year, but not the end, never the end. This story also tells us that just because we're afraid of loving and losing doesn't mean we should stick with the familiar, just because the familiar feels safe. If the familiar was wrong from the beginning a new land will not make the familiar right.

The only reason this story lost some point with me was because Jordan unintentionally hurt Griffin, who despite being a professed commitment-phobe was actually a really sweet guy. I also did not like that Noah was constantly blowing hot and cold, and he never stopped to think about how his actions hurt Jordan.

So, in conclusion I say read, you will laugh, you will want to cry and you will want to go and hug your meddling best friend. Oh, one more thing remember to live for the now, to hell with the end.

Playing for Keeps (Neighbor from Hell #1) by R.L. Mathewson

This is the first installment in the Neighbors from Hell series. Its a romance/comedy and while some of the content maybe a little NC-17 its still a good read.

The story follows the hate to love relationship of Jason and Haley, two neighbors and co-workers. Haley is very shy and an extreme pushover, she avoid confrontation like the plague. Jason is a charismatic, good looking guy, who happens to be a natural asshole but somehow manages to still be likeable as a character.

The story begins with Haley noticing that Jason is tearing out all her tulips from a flowerbed that is between their two houses. Haley loves those flower, they were a gift from her grandmother, so for the first time in her life she storms out and in brash moment grabs the hose and sprays Jason, Jason is of course pissed and as the battle for the flowers ensues they realize they have agrevated the underground bee nest. They flee into Haleys house which happens to be the closest. As the house becomes covered by bees they contact the exterminator and Haley gives Jason a change of clothe and directs him to the bathroom so he can grab a shower. They proceed to hangout while the exterminator is able to come and deal with the bees and Haley finds that Jason isn't as big of an ass as she thought him to be. From this point on they form a friendship, where Jason belives himself Haley's Mr. Miyagi as he helps her become more extroverted.

As time goes by, both Haley and Jason develop feeling for each other that go beyond friendship and they eventually become boyfriend and girlfriend. As with any love story there is always some spiteful bitch that just has to come and mess things up.

Thankfully, they fix their problems and the book ends with a 10 years later and the happy story just goes on. The characters are good and the story is good, the only thing the author should have explained is how Jason got banned from restaurants, that just seems like such a good story.
